Building character, leadership, and service since 1959. Join the legacy of the 1st Panadura Horana Scout Troop.
Founded in 1959, the 1st Panadura-Horana Scout Troop has been shaping young leaders for over six decades.
Sri Sumangala College was founded on 3 March 1909 and has grown into one of the most respected educational institutions in the region. Our scout troop, the 1st Panadura Horana Scout Troop, was founded on 18 February 1959 by Mr. M.N. Fernando at the request of Principal Mr. K.L.V. Alagiyawanna, with 24 founding members.
Registered as No. A-76 — the first scout troop in the Kalutara District — the troop was invested on 8 December 1959. Our first Troop Leader Janalal Rodrigo became the first recipient of the Queen's Award on 1 July 1962, and together with Mahinda Senarathne represented Sri Lanka at the 11th World Scout Jamboree in Greece that same year.
Today we have over 200 active Scouts and Cubs, making us the largest and most decorated troop in the district with 10+ consecutive district championships. Our scouts continue to participate in national and international jamborees, community service projects, and leadership development programs.
